The worst book I've ever (not completely) read has to be Don Quixote.
It is a crock of rubbish, didn't make ANY sense to me (and I had read reviews etc before beginning so that I knew what the big deal was about) - just seemed like a total fruit loop travelling the country side thinking he was a gallant knight purely because he had an obsession with novels that depicted gallant knights.
One day I will try to read it again, but not for a loooooong time.
I once saw a 'Greatest Books of All Time' list, and this book was at the top. Something inside of me makes me think that this may be a case of new clothes for the Emperor - that if you say you didn't 'get' it, or didn't like it, well......maybe I'm not a good judge of books, but I think I am, and quite frankly, Don Quixote did not rock my boat.
And here, my good friends, is a quote that sums it all up for me, and makes me think that I am not alone in stating "Oh my goodness, the Emperor isn't wearing any clothes!!": http://www.themodernword.com/reviews/quixote.html
Just read the first lines of the review by Bob Williams, and you have my sentiments exactly - although I wouldn't call the novel an 'impregnable masterpiece'.
But what would I know?
I'll tell you what I know - I know that this has played on my mind for literally over a decade, and I know that I have finally found a place to vent about it. My very own blog, where I can say what I feel and not feel bad. Yay.
Don Quixote sucks big time. It is the WORST book I have ever (not completely) read.
Talk another time (no longer shall I say 'talk tomorrow', because I am finding that I am not actually blogging every night).
